I knew Ana, my rent-a-friend-for-the-day, and I would hit it off as soon as we met. Why? After introductions, she suggested we go for a drink; specifically Peru’s national libation, the pisco sour.

We headed for the Gran Hotel Bolivar, which has been serving pisco sours for almost a century. The drink is made up of the local alcohol (pisco), key lime juice, syrup, ice, egg white, and Angostura bitters.

I’m not really an alcohol drinker (I had my first mojito only last week), and this one packed quite a punch. As I staggered out of the bar at 10 AM, it was nice to have a friend to lean on.
